Matt Cook signs on to stay at Castleford

Castleford Tigers have revealed that forward Matt Cook has signed a one-year contract extension, meaning that he will stay at the Jungle until the end of the 2017 season.

The former Bradford and Hull KR back rower joined Cas from London Broncos at the start of the 2015 season, and went on to play 17 games in Tigers colours last season.

“I’m over the moon to be staying at Castleford for the next two years,” said Cook.

“Since joined the club last season I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of this team. I feel very settled at the club and I think that comes down to the club culture and how tight knit the boys are.

“Last season we narrowly missed out on making the top four in order to push for silverware. I’m really looking forward to the next two seasons at Cas and I truly believe we can go on and win trophies.

“I’d like to thank Powelly, the coaching staff, Steve Gill and the club for giving me the opportunity to extend my stay with the Tigers.”

Cas head coach Daryl Powell believes Cook offers several positive qualities to the Tigers squad.

“Cooky has been a quality signing for us with his energy and athleticism being two great strengths,” he said.

“I’m confident he has a whole heap of further development in his game and I am really pleased to extend his deal and secure his services for the next two years.”
