Mark Calderwood is set to join Workington Town.

Calderwood is a former England, Wigan and Hull FC winger, but has disappeared from the professional scene since failing to impress at a trial period with Harlequins last season.

The 30-year old last played for England in the 2008 World Cup where the home nation reached the semi finals of the tournament, losing to eventual champions New Zealand.

Town director Tony Boyd said: “It’s not every day that a player of Mark’s calibre becomes available.

“When we were alerted to his availability we moved quickly to secure his signature as we feel he will provide the experience and cutting-edge finishing which we will need as we move closer to the business end of this all-important season.”
