Wigan back rower Liam Farrell took home the Harry Sunderland Trophy for the man of the match in the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The England international was delighted with his team’s effort, especially in defence, and felt that it marked a special achievement to win the trophy in a year blighted by so many injuries at the Warriors.

“I think every Grand Final is unique, and this year we’ve written our own story,” he told Sky Sports after the game.

“We’ve gone through so much adversity. We just wanted to make things right, we’ve been here for four or five years in a row.

“I don’t want to go on about the injuries, but the injuries we’ve had this year have been unbelievable.

“To do what we’ve done is something really special for the club.

“Today the lads really stuck to it. It was tough.

“I thought we really deserved it in the end, I cant be any prouder of the boys.”
