Less than 48 hours after their dramatic 1 point loss against St George, Wests Tigers have been hit with the news that halfback Robert Lui has been charged with assault.

Lui, 20, has been relieved of club duties until further notice and is facing charges that he allegedly assaulted his partner.

A club statement read: “Lui has told the club that he will vigorously contest charges laid against him today as result of those allegations.

The matter is now one for the Police and the courts to manage. The club will respect the legal process and respect the rights of everyone involved by not entering into any further comment.

Lui has enjoyed a stellar season with the Tigers after establishing himself as Tim Sheens’ first choice half back.

The statement added: “Wests Tigers has an inclusive and family orientated culture and does not condone violence against women.

“The club will do everything in its power to respect the rights of all parties involved in this matter and to offer appropriate support.

Wests Tigers will continue to monitor this situation.”
