Long out for eight weeks with broken jaw

Sean Long is facing an eight-week lay-off after suffering a broken jaw in St Helens’ 20-10 defeat at Salford City Reds.

The 32-year-old scrum half was taken to hospital after leaving the field injured in the second half at The Willows.

Long will have surgery on Monday after which he will need the eight weeks to fully recover.

Saints are hoping that Long will return in time for the end-of-season run in; a speedy recovery could see him return for the Carnegie Challenge Cup final on August 29th, should Saints reach Wembley.

However, last month Long signed with Hull FC on a two-year deal from the start of the 2010 season, so a slow recovery could make this his last game for Saints.
