Former St Helens legend Sean Long has hung up his playing boots with Hull FC to take up a coaching role with Salford City Reds.

The former Great Britian half back, who won every club honour in the game, hasn’t featured for the Black and White’s since picking up an injury against rivals Hull KR.

The 34-year-old only featured for Hull FC 21 times since signing from St Helens in 2009, where he spent 12 successful seasons.

Salford Coach Matt Parish is keen to assemble a new coaching staff for when the City Reds move into their new stadium next season.

Commenting on the announcement, Long said “I’m excited about the new challenge and luckily I can stay involved in rugby league.”
