Leigh has defeated Wigan 26-20 in a see-sawing Battle of the Borough encounter at the Leigh Sports Village today.

In an entertaining match the lead changed several times as a youthful Warriors outfit met a Centurions team bristling with experience and class.

An error from Greg McNally gifted Wigan their first try, Josh Charnley gleefully accepting.

A break from Lewis Tierney then set up Liam Marshall for the Warrior’s second. Marshall soon got his second of the afternoon, Wigan’s third, and the Warriors had a 14-0 lead.

But the Centurions woke from their slumber and hit back twice, Liam Kay and Adam Higson crossing for tries.

Leigh snuck in front 16-14 after Sam Hopkins powered over from close range. The two-point buffer remained at half-time.

Tierney then put the Warriors back in front after finishing off a long Charnley break. But then McNally tied up at 20-20 with a try on his own.

The Centurions edged ahead again after Jamie Acton smashed his way over.

Wigan ralled in the final stages but could not find another try, the match ending with Leigh six-point winners.
