Leeds Rhinos head coach Richard Agar has confirmed another hamstring injury to centre Harry Newman.

Newman, 22, left the field during the club’s victory over Wakefield in Super League round four.

Leeds picked up their first win of the season over Trinity with a 34-18 score last Thursday.

Newman crossed for a try in his first appearance of the season before leaving the field due to injury. Speaking on his pre-match press conference, Agar has confirmed it is the same injury that kept him on the sidelines earlier this season.

Richard Agar confirms injury news to Harry Newman

Agar said: “He’s had a reoccurrence of the hamstring injury.

“We’ve got further tests going on. It’s disappointing. We couldn’t have been much more careful.

“We had him scanned and it showed he was fully healed. We kept him back to get extra miles in his legs. But it was the collision he went down in. He was going great up until then and hit the ground running.

“He brought loads of energy. It is a major disappointment for us.

“We’re looking at similar time frames to last time, but obviously we’re going to be ultra careful. Although I did feel from a medical perspective, we couldn’t have been more careful with the first one this time around.”

Agar continued: “It will be about four to six weeks. We had him scanned at three weeks last time and he was fully healed and good to go, but we kept him back for a bit more running.

“Hamstrings can be tricky ones at times. When you look at the tackle, there’s nothing wrong with the tackle, but it was clear from the moment of the impact he was feeling it again.

“It’s a real blow to us given the quality of player that he is.”
