Leeds consolidate top four spot with Wigan win

Leeds bounced back from their Challenge Cup semi-final disappointment with a 32-16 win over Wigan to start the Super 8s.

Stevie Ward crossed for a hat-trick and full-back Ashton Golding scored twice as the Rhinos opened up a six point gap on fifth placed Salford.

The game was finely poised at half-time at 10-10, but the hosts proved too strong in the second half with Matt Parcell also getting on the scoresheet.

For Wigan, Tom Davies scored two tries and Sam Tomkins bagged a late consolation.

Hull avenged their home defeat to Salford earlier in the year with a 32-18 win at the KCOM Stadium.

This one was also tied at half-time, at 14-14, before again the hosts proved too strong.

Salford winger Manu Vatuvei scored his first two Super League tries to bookend the match, though both proved to be in vain as Carlos Tuimavave scored a brace to help Hull to victory.

Jake Connor scored a try and six goals in the absence of regular goalkicker Marc Sneyd.

Elsewhere, Danny Brough inspired Huddersfield to a convincing 36-6 win over Wakefield.

The win lifts the Giants in to seventh in the table and keeps alive their hopes of a top-four place.
