Leeds Rhinos have confirmed that players Zak Hardaker and Elliot Minchella were involved in an incident which is being investigated by police.

They have declined to offer further comment, however, as to the specific nature of the incident.

The Yorkshire Post reported earlier on Friday that the pair had been questioned by West Yorkshire Police about an alleged assault at student flats.

The incident is alleged to have occurred in the early hours of February 3, at the Opal One building on Burley Road.

Three days ago, West Yorkshire Police had asked for the public’s help regarding an incident they described as “a nasty assault”.

Reportedly, on the date in question, two men entered shared accommodation and attempted to get into some of the rooms, between 2.30am and 3am.

A 22-year-old man confronted the pair, and was assaulted. He suffered bruising to his neck, as well as black eyes.

Police received a number of calls, following the release of CCTV images.

An official statement from Leeds Rhinos reads:

“The club have been made aware of an incident in which it is alleged that Leeds Rhinos players Zak Hardaker and Elliot Minchella were involved.

“Both the club and the individuals concerned are co operating fully with the police investigation.

“Until such time as that investigation is concluded neither the club or the players involved are able to make any further comment.”
