Sydney Roosters have boosted their ranks with the acquisition of Canterbury backrower Nick Kouparitsas on a one-year deal.

The 25-year-old negotiated a release from the Bulldogs after finding his opportunities at Belmore limited behind skipper Andrew Ryan, David Stagg and new recruit Greg Eastwood.

The Canberra-born forward was supposed to have joined the Eastern Suburbs club last month but the move fell through due to financial problem. But Kouparitsas convinced Bulldogs bosses to release him from his contract to join the Roosters until 2010.

He told AAP: “This is a superb opportunity for me to show once again that I have the pedigree to produce at the highest level in the world’s best league.”

“To play for such a prestigious club under the guidance of the legendary Brad Fittler was a huge attraction for me.”

“It’s a great honour to sign for the Roosters. I am confident of getting back to rediscovering my best form here.”
