Klein to take charge of WCC

Former Super League referee, Ashley Klein will return to the United Kingdom to take control of this Friday’s World Club Challenge in Leeds.

Klein, who has been regarded as one of the best referees to ever officiate in the Super League, left the country in 2009 due to personal reasons.

During his time in the Super League, he refereed three Super League Grand Finals, one Challenge Cup Final as well as numerous international fixtures. He was also honoured with the Super League referee of the year award in 2005.

Since then, he has been officiating regularly in the NRL and has been given the nod to take control of the encounter between Leeds Rhinos and Manly Sea Eagles after a conversation between RFL and ARL match official directors.

Klein will take to the field with former colleagues, James Child and Chlind Sharrad who take up the position of touch judges. Ian Smith has been appointed as video referee.
