Parramatta Eels five-eighth Kieran Foran is taking an indefinite break from rugby league, according to reports.

Foran has been battled depression and is quitting the NRL to focus on his private life.

A statement from the Kiwi star’s management to TV station Channel 9 said: “Right now my health and family are my concerns and I hope that the club and supporters of the Eels respect that.

“I want to thank the Eels for everything they have done for me.”

Foran joined Parramatta from Manly on a massive four-year $4.8 million deal.

The playmaker was ruled out early in the season with a shoulder injury.
