Wakefield coach John Kear has announced that he will leave the Trinity Wildcats at the end of the current season.

Kear, who has been at the club since 2006, stated “Having joined in 2006, this is the time to seek a fresh challenge, thus coinciding with the club’s new ownership and Super League licence.

Kear will stay in charge of the Wildcats for the final five games of the season, including the clash against Crusaders on Sunday.

The seasoned coach also added “My tenure with the Wildcats started with that unforgettable end-of-season run of four wins out of six to avoid relegation, further highlighted by the 2008 campaign with a club best-ever Super League finish of fifth and a highly creditable Challenge Cup semi-final appearance.

“Throughout the five years, the club has established itself as a mid-table side, this season being made onerous by financial crisis resulting in a crippling points deduction.”
