Justin Holbrook says he is delighted with St Helens’ start to the season following their win at Warrington Wolves.

Saints were 8-6 up at the break and produced a brilliant second half display, scoring four tries to seal a comfortable 30-12 victory against local rivals Warrington.

And with Holbrook’s side now having won their opening five games of 2018, the Saints boss is happy with their start.

He said: “I’m really pleased we went to Warrington and got the win.

“I’m really happy with our start to the season. Conditions are tough at this time of year and to get five straight wins is important and it’s great to be a part of. The players are playing great and it is a joy to watch.

“We are playing well as a team so if we do get chances then we are taking them at the moment which is good.

“We are stopping a lot of teams with our defence as well so that’s very pleasing. Our whole game is working well, we want to keep getting better but we are enjoying it at the minute. It was another tough challenge going there but we came away with the win and it was pleasing.”

Mark Percival scored a hat-trick to scoop the man of the match award while Danny Richardson and James Roby also enjoyed fine performances.

And Holbrook was impressed with the trio.

He added: “Percy (Mark Percival) is sending a message to me and it’s a very good one!

“He’s doing everything well for us. He’s got everything going for him and he’s a great player, we all know that and he’s showing it. It’s great to see him display his talents.

“Danny’s done some good things for us. He is working hard on his game and he is getting better and he is doing a real good job for us at the moment.

“I thought Robes (James Roby) was outstanding again. He was poking his nose through on any half chance he got. He is a fantastic player and was very strong. He was fantastic.”

England star Alex Walmsley came off with shoulder, neck and head injuries and didn’t return but Holbrook doesn’t know the extent of the knocks just yet. He will be assessed further next week.
