Jones set for Super League return

Former St Helens back-rower or centre Josh Jones is set for a quick return to Super League after bringing an end to his time with Exeter rugby union.

Jones, 22, made the move south to change codes at the end of last season, but has opted to depart the south coast without making a first team appearance for the Chiefs.

Exeter confirmed his exit on their official club website, citing the fact that Jones’ partner Olivia is expecting their first child in June as a reason for his exit.

Jones said: “I cannot speak highly enough of everyone at the Chiefs because it’s a special club with a great culture.

“I want to thank Rob, all the coaches, the players, staff and supporters for everything. Rob gave me a great opportunity and a new challenge, but due to family circumstances I have to cut it short early.

“Even though I’ve only been here a short while, I know I have improved a lot as a player. When you are working alongside so many skilful players, like they have at the Chiefs, you’re always going to add to your game and pick up things.”
