St Helens back-rower Joe Batchelor has returned to York on a one-month loan deal.

The 24-year-old originally joined the Knights from Coventry Bears ahead of the 2017 season, and was instrumental in helping James Ford’s side win the League 1 title and gain promotion to the Championship.

Batchelor scored 23 tries in 27 appearances for the Knights, earning him a three-year contract with Super League side Saints.

On securing the services of Batchelor for the next month, Ford said: “Joe is a good player with a great attitude, and I’m pleased he’s coming back to us.

“It’s an environment he knows and trusts well, and he will contribute to the culture in the squad.

“There’s some quality competition for places in this team and that is a real positive at this level.”

Batchelor will be unavailable for York’s trip to Dewsbury Rams this weekend but will be considered for selection for games against Barrow Raiders, Bradford Bulls and Leigh Centurions.
