Hunslet have announced the signing of Danny Maun from Batley on a one-year deal, and also the contract extensions of James Houston and John Oakes.

Maun, 32, played for the Bulldogs in last Sunday’s Championship Grand Final defeat to Sheffield, and after six seasons he leaves Mount Pleasant for the second time in his career.

The centre’s first spell at Batley came between 2001 and 2004, and he then spent time with Featherstone and Dewsbury before returning to the Bulldogs in 2008.

Hawks Director of Rugby Darren Williams had this to say: “We’ve finally been able to land Danny’s signature after chasing him for 2013, his popularity at the Bulldogs cannot be underestimated, the service he has given that club is exceptional and he leaves on good terms.

“To be able to persuade a Championship Grand finalist to join us despite relegation into Championship 1 is a huge coup for the club. He will be a top draw addition and a major attacking weapon in our armoury for 2014.”

Meanwhile Williams revealed that forwards James Houston and John Oakes have signed contract extensions to keep them both with the Parksiders for 2014.

Houston made 27 appearances in 2013, scoring four tries, while Oakes scored two tries in 21 matches.
