Hull KR release Holker

Hull KR have released young forward Stephen Holker from his contract at the club with immediate effect.

The 20-year-old, who came through the club’s academy, made his debut against Leeds last year, and has made four senior appearances in total for the Robins.

Rovers head of rugby Jamie Peacock explained that the player needed more first team games to develop his career.

“We wish Steve all the best during the rest of his career and thank him for all his efforts whilst at the club,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s probably fair to say that injuries at unfortunate times have prevented him from playing more games at Super League level but he’s at the stage now where he needs to be playing every week in order to progress.

“We are not in a position to offer him that as a couple of young forwards from the City of Hull Academy have overtaken him in the pecking order in James Webster’s squad.

“This is a move that is best for all parties and we wish him good luck for the future.”
