Hull building momentum

Hull moved up to third in the Super League table with a 42-28 win over Castleford, and coach Peter Gentle says they are starting to build momentum.

Back-rowers Danny Tickle and Willie Manu impressed once again as the Airlie Birds recorded their fifth win of the league campaign, which sees them just two points behind leaders Warrington, with a game in hand.

Gentle told the club’s official website: “It was a real tough afternoon for us and I thought the boys played as if they were expecting an easy win in that first half.

“That’s not what we are about and we spoke to them at half time. It wasn’t screaming and shouting, we just spoke about a few things and the boys agreed with what we were saying.

“We are starting to build momentum but we are still searching for that 80 minute performance. Conceding 28 points is far too many, but we were a lot better in the second half and we can build on that.”

Gentle’s only defeat since taking charge came at the hands of salford, but they have since picked up wins over Wakefield, St Helens, Widnes and Castleford.

They host Bradford on Friday before the Hull derby on Good Friday.
