Huddersfield hope to compete in the women’s Championship next year.

The 2019 Championship season will see the Giants compete against the likes of Hull FC, Widnes Vikings and Warrington Wolves.

Huddersfield ran an Under-19s team in 2018, and will now make the step up to the Championship next year, with the aspirations of making the Women’s Super League in future years.

Giants’ community trust’s head of community development, Jonathan Timms, commented: “I am certain that our dedicated approach to junior development and running an Under-19s team has set us up well for a successful season within what I am sure will be a much improved, competitive Championship in 2019.

“Over the past year Steve [Stead], our women’s head coach, has built a strong playing group of talented young athletes that I am sure will have a rewarding, successful year given the professional environment in which they train.

“The 2019 Championship is sure to be an exciting completion with other professionally branded clubs looking to enter the competition and I am really excited to see Steve and his players out on the field next year after what I am sure will be a tough pre-season campaign in readiness for the competition.”
