Huddersfield stun Hull FC

Huddersfield Giants have kept their slender hopes of making the Super 8s alive with a shock 10-point victory over league-leaders Hull FC at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Hull just suffered their first defeat in 12 Super League matches.

Nine minutes in and the Airlie Brids went close to going over after a kick from Marc Sneyd, but Huddersfield were awarded a penalty after Chris Green was penalized for holding down Jake Connor.

The Giants took the lead after Michael Lawrence touched down in the centre following a great kick from Jamie Ellis.

Ellis kicked a penalty just before the interval to give Huddersfield an 8-0 lead.

Steve Michaels thought he had scored Hull’s first try of the evening, appearing to go over in the corner but the video referee confirmed there was no try after a knock on.

Two minutes later and the visitors did cross Danny Washbrook scoring his first try of the season after a pass from Danny Houghton.

Marc Sneyd successfully nailed the conversion to reduce the deficit to two points.

At the other end, Tom Symonds touched down for the Giants after a kick from Kyle Wood, which Washbrook could only push against the posts.

Huddersfield’s next try came in controversial fashion, Jermaine McGillvary going over in the corner despite what looked like a forward pass from Jake Connor beforehand.

The game continued to swing in the Giants favour, McGillvary crashing over once again for his 150th career try. The play followed a 40/20 kick by Connor.

Fetuli Talanoa scored a late consolation for Hull FC over on the far side, pegging the scores back to 22-12.
