St Helens were made to work hard by bottom-placed Harlequins to secure a win in the capital.

Academy products Andrew Dixon and James Roby ran in two tries apiece as Mick Potter’s men recorded a 32-24 win at Twickenham Stoop, in their double header match that followed Harlequins’ rugby union’s clash with Leeds Carnegie.

Quins took a surprise early lead through Leeds loanee Ben Jones-Bishop but Dixon’s first try ensured the score was level at 6-6 at half time.

The visitors grabbed the initiative in the second half through Kyle Eastmond and Dixon’s second, but debutant Kevin Penny clawed the home side back in to the game with his first try for the club.

Luke Williamson then levelled things up for Quins, but Roby’s brace put the game safe for Saints before Tony Clubb‘s late consolation.
