Hardaker pushing for Leeds return

Leeds and England full-back Zak Hardaker is closing in on a return to the Rhinos line-up, according to coach Brian McDermott.

Hardaker, 21, is an outsider for selection for Sunday’s televised clash with Warrington, a repeat of last season’s Super League Grand Final.

The former Featherstone youngster has been missing since suffering a thumb injury in the 42-14 win over Salford back in February, which ruled him out of the World Club Challenge defeat to Melbourne.

McDermott said: “Zak Hardaker is pushing hard for selection after he had his pot removed on Tuesday. The medical staff will advise on whether he is ready to go this week, if not it will not be long before he is back.

“We have got a couple of injuries that we will need to check on before making the final selection. Brett Delaney and Ian Kirke both came off against Catalan so they are a doubt. Kylie Leuluai will come back into the squad after missing last week.

“Our back room team have done a great job in keeping everyone fresh over Easter and we are looking forward to Sunday’s challenge.”

One man who will be missing for the Rhinos is prop Ryan Bailey, who was handed a four match ban by the RFL disciplinary committee early this week.
