Hanbury wants to build on win over the Champions

Widnes Vikings fullback Rhys Hanbury wants his side to build on the victory against Leeds Rhinos when they come up against Salford Red Devils this weekend.

The Australian kicked seven goals in the Vikings 56-12 victory over the Rhinos, which gives his side two wins from their first two games.

Hanbury and his teammates will be hoping to build on their start to the 2016 season, and says the mood created at the club is a massive help to them and Hanbury was quick to credit Brett Hodgson for his form this season.

“The mood in camp is really good, and has been all pre-season really,” Hanbury said.

“We were really confident to get the win against Leeds but to do it in the manner that we did was really pleasing. I have had another year working with Hodgo. He always guides me on the right path.

“It took me a while to get going but my body feels really healthy at the moment and the footy is really enjoyable for me right now.”

Next up for the Vikings is another team on the back of a big win, the Salford Red Devils, who defeated St Helens 44-10 last Thursday. Hanbury says the improved Red Devils offer a huge challenge and wants his teammates to gain revenge for the defeat to them in 2015.

“They look a more balanced team this year. They have the influence of Tim Sheens and Rob Lui is a great player,” he said.

We’re really going to have to work hard to get the win. It’s going to be a tough game going away to Salford. They did a number on us at our place in the Qualifiers last year so we will be looking to get one back on them this time.”
