Forward James Greenwood has pledged his future to Hull Kingston Rovers after confirming he will take his place in head coach Tim Sheens’ squad for 2017.

The 2016 Fans Forum Player of the Year signed a new long-term deal with the Robins earlier this season and has now agreed to remain with the club in the Kingstone Press Championship, taking the tally of contracted players for next season to 16.

The 25-year old can play through the middle but has also successfully featured in the back row this season.

Having scored 10 tries in 39 appearances for the Robins, Greenwood will form a key part of Sheens’ squad in next season’s quest for promotion back to Super League after an impressive start to his career at the Lightstream Stadium.

Hull KR’s Head of Rugby Jamie Peacock said: “This is really positive news for the club to be able to hold onto a player of James’ calibre.

“He’s made continual progress since joining the club and he wouldn’t have been short of suitors following the season he’s just had.

“His form earned him a new extended contract earlier this year and he performed consistently well for us right until the end, so he was a player that we really wanted to keep for 2017.”
