South Wales Scorpions have confirmed that former Cardiff City FC director and Celtic Crusaders operations manager Gerald McCarthy has joined the club’s management board.

Scorpions’ director Neil Williams is very pleased that McCarthy has committed to the South Welsh outfit.

“Gerald will bring a wealth of experience to the club,” he said.

“His knowledge when it comes to sponsorship, marketing and building the matchday experience is second to none.

“He was part of the team that took the Crusaders from a standing start to the top flight in under five years. If we can utilise and tap into Gerald’s knowledge then it will be a big help to us as we look to  move the club forward.”

McCarthy is looking forward to being involved with the 13-man code again after an absence of seven years.

“I would like to thank South Wales Scorpions for giving me the opportunity to be involved in rugby league once again,” he said.

“It is a sport I am passionate about. It will be a tough job building the brand but one I will give 100 per cent commitment to.

“My intention is, with the support of owners Marc Lovering and Neil Williams, to make this club a force to be reckoned with.”
