Former Sydney Roosters great Craig Fitzgibbon will return to the club next season in a coaching capacity.

Fitzgibbon, 34, was forced to retire last month after suffering a serious ankle injury in Hull FC‘s 50-18 thrashing of Castleford.

He will join the Roosters in a dual coaching rehabilitation role.

A club statement said: “The Roosters are excited to have Fitzy back at the club and no doubt his experience and abilities both on and off the park will go a long way to ensuring the Tricolours have a successful 2012.”

The former Illawarra and St George player made 228 appearances for the Roosters in a nine-year stint with the Bondi Junction club.
