Ferres believes England could play Knights

Huddersfield back rower Brett Ferres believes that the England Knights could provide the full England team with better preparation fixtures than the likes of France.

The French, fielding a significantly weakened team which was without most of their Catalans Dragons players, folded at Leigh on Saturday, losing 84-4 to England.

Such a one-sided affair will have done little to ready Steve McNamara’s team for the coming Test series against New Zealand, and Ferres feels that the Knights could step in.

“I think we do have the depth now for that,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I played for the Knights a couple of years ago and there’s some fantastic young players in there who have come through since and played first-team with England.

“Potentially, there is enough players there to play such a match and I’m guessing it’s something they’ve looked at. Whether it happens or not I’m not sure but if there’s scope for it it would be a good idea.”
