St Helens ace Luke Douglas will start at prop for Scotland

Luke Douglas says Keiron Cunningam’s passion for St Helens convinced him to swap the Gold Coast for Langtree Park.

Douglas has had a long career in the NRL with the Titans and Cronulla but is one of Saints major signings for 2017.

The Australian is excited about his new surroundings.

“It’s a great little community here, they love their footy and I can’t wait to get out there and meet everyone and put in some great performances for the team,” he said.

“I knew it was a great club and when Keiron got in contact with me he was very passionate and keen to get me over so I love that and I love his keeness and passion for the club.

“I’ve been over here in the Four Nations and also the World Cup over the years and playing for Scotland and I’m loving the atmosphere and the whole vibe.

“I always wanted to come over here and experience the Super League and I got my opportunity and grabbed it and brought my family over and I’m really looking forward to the year.”

Douglas knows English conditions well after his appearances for Scotland in the past four years.

The prop has arrived in Super League with his family in tow.

“I came over a week before the wife and little one came over, just organised a few things like cot, car seat and things like that,” Douglas said.

“They came a week later and we’re all settling in and trying to find a few things like furniture and all that but we know everything.

“My wife’s loving the Costa coffees so she’s doing good, she’s doing a bit of complaining about the cold but I told her to toughen up and she’s got a few jackets on so she’s alright.”
