Michael Dobson will be out for ten weeks after the Hull KR star underwent ankle surgery at the end of last week.

The 24-year-old did not feature in his side’s 31-18 defeat to Catalan Dragons on Sunday.

Rovers coach Justin Morgan revealed that the half back injured his ankle some time ago and the injury had been aggraveted in recent weeks.

“It’s something that needed to be done at some point,” said Morgan.

“We were hopeful that we were going to be able to nurse him through a number of weeks but I made the decision that there was no point sending him out there on one leg and we’ve had to bit the bullet and get it sorted out.

“We’ll soldier on without him. He’s an integral part of our team, of course he is. Every team wants a Michael Dobson or the equivilent in their team but I’m very confident in the group that we’ve got.”

Morgan is confident that Dobson will be able to recapture his best form when he returns to action.

“He’s a professional kid so he’ll rehab fast and hopefully in ten weeks time he’ll be back playing and finding some form for the back end of the season,” he added.
