Dewsbury bring in half-back from Australia

Dewsbury have signed Australian half-back Jacob Thomas for the 2019 season.

The 25-year-old only arrived in England three weeks ago after taking up a job post in Leeds after completing his teaching degree back home.

Thomas has played at various levels throughout his career, including a spell at Queensland-based club Normanby Hounds.

On his move to Dewsbury, Thomas said: “Someone at my old club put me in touch with someone at the Rams, the attraction was the opportunity to play Championship rugby overseas.

“With the English system being as it is with relegation and promotion you are never far away from playing in the Super League.

“Fortunately for me starting work here wasn’t difficult so that is something else that attracted me. The hours work well, and with Leeds being a rugby area where I am now living, hopefully I can teach the students some parts of the game too.

“I would say halfway through this year I started to formulate the plan to come to England to play rugby. I started to follow the competition and results and saw what could be a good fit for me.

“Dewsbury popped up as one of the clubs in the area I was interested in and I am very fortunate that the opportunity presented itself to play for the Rams.”

Thomas is primarily a half-back, but he can also play at full-back so he will add plenty of versatility options to the Rams in 2019.
