Dean Scorpions stint cut short

Welsh international Gareth Dean, who played for South Wales Scorpions in Rochdale a week ago last Sunday, has had to return to France and it’s doubtful that he will take part in any further Scorpions matches this year.

His partner, Kristel, who remained in Carcassonne, has been having some altercations with her pregnancy and Dean has flown back to be with her.

“I am very disappointed that I only got the chance to play in the one game,” he said. “I’m particularly sad that I didn’t get a chance to play in the home games against Doncaster this Sunday and York the on Sunday 15th as I wanted to catch up with the home fans and hopefully have a hand in getting the Scorpions to the play-offs in the very first year of the club’s history.

“It’s hard to go after such a short spell but family must always come first. All the best to the Scorpions for the rest of the season and I really hope you boys make the play-offs.”

Scorpions coach Anthony Seibold said: “Gareth will be missed as we play the final three games of the season, he would have added to our squad’s depth. I know he was keen to push his chances for inclusion in the Welsh International squad by playing here in the UK.

“He goes back to France with our best wishes to his partner Kristel and himself. If he became available again in the future, I would hope that he would return to South Wales as he is the right fit for this club as a born and bred Welsh player. He goes with our thoughts.”
