Widnes prop Ben Davies has joined Championship 1 side South Wales Scorpions on a month’s loan.

Davies, 23, has been limited to just one Super League appearance for the Vikings this term, in the 46-14 defeat at Catalan Dragons.

Head Coach Denis Betts said: “Ben has found opportunities at the Vikings difficult to come by this season and this opening came about through the friendship of Mick Cassidy and Scorpions’ Head Coach Dave Clark.

“Being too old to feature in the U19s competition, Ben found himself at a bit of a crossroads and with nowhere to play. He’s now in a position to get some games under his belt, and receive some quality coaching while he’s there.”

Davies came through the ranks at Wigan, and was dual-registered with Widnes, before spending spells on loan at Barrow and Castleford.

He made a permanent move to the Stobart Stadium ahead of the 2012 season, and made 24 appearances.
