Cowboys face anxious wait on Bowen

North Queensland fullback Matt Bowen faces an anxious wait to see if he requires radical knee surgery – which could rule him out for up to ten months.

Bowen suffered the strain against Newcastle and is set to miss this weekennd’s crucial clash with Brisbane in Townsvile.

The 27-year-old will see a surgeon on Monday who will advise him whether or not he needs surgery

Cowboys coach Neil Henry said the situation was a case of “wait and see”.

“We will see at the end of the week but he hasn’t been able to run since after the game without any discomfort so we will wait and see,” Henry told AAP.

“If there is some possibility of him playing we would certainly like to see him out there.

“But it’s looking very unlikely at this stage. He hasn’t been listed and I don’t expect him to play.”

If experts advise against the surgery Bowen does stand a remote chance of playing again this season – which is something not lost on Henry.

“We are a slim chance of playing in the finals,” he added. “So if he is available we would like him in the team.”
