Salford-bound Castleford stand-off Rangi Chase has defended his involvement in the Red Devils launch presentation at Salford City Stadium on Thursday.

Chase, 27, was unveiled as one of 12 new signings for coach Brian Noble, but came in for criticism from fans of his current club.

In a statement, he said: “I would like to let Castleford fans know that I did not intend to upset anyone yesterday.

“People who know me know that while I am at Cas I am 100% committed to the club and yesterday was a way for Salford to promote their future, just like a lot of clubs do.

“My final game for Cas is this weekend in a big match versus Wakefield Wildcats and I can assure fans that I will give my all for the team.”

Castleford coach Daryl Powell had previously confirmed that Chase would captain the side in his final game against Wakefield on Sunday.

Chase has made more than 120 appearances for Castleford since arriving in 2009 from St George-Illawarra Dragons.
