Championship round-up: Ader scores hat-trick, York ease past Halifax, Leigh romp at Rochdale

There were nearly as many cards shown as tries scored in round seven of the Championship.

Sheffield Eagles edged past Dewsbury Rams 16-13 in a tight affair at the Tetley’s Stadium.

Paul Sykes and Rob Worrincy scored Dewsbury’s tries. Rams players Chris Annakin, Adam Ryder and Liam Finn were sin-binned for punching, a high tackle and holding down respectively. Eagles forward Joel Farrell was yellow carded in the first half for a high tackle.

Dewsbury forward Samy Kibula was sent-off for high tackle in the 28th minute, while Sheffield ace Brad Knowles-Tagg was red carded for punching.

Greg McNally and James Bentley scored two tries each to help Leigh Centurions ease past Rochdale Hornets 46-6 at the Leigh Sports Village.

Iain Thornley, Toby Adamson, Jonny Pownall and Liam Hood scored Leigh’s other tries.

Toulouse Olympique made it five wins on the spin as they emerged comfortable 50-0 victors against Barrow Raiders at the Stade Ernest Argeles.

Gavin Marguerite, Bastien Ader (3), Tony Maurel (2), Anthony Marion (2), Mathieu Jussaume and Joe Bretherton all crossed the whitewash for the French side.

Toronto Wolfpack dispatched Batley Bulldogs 34-12 at the KCOM Craven Park on Sunday.

Matty Russell (2), Andrew Dixon, Jack Logan, Ricky Leutele (2) and Jon Wilkin went over for the Canadian outfit.

Featherstone Rovers were made to work for the two points as they edged past Swinton Lions 24-12 at Heywood Road.

Jack Bussey (2), Ashton Golding and Jack Ormondroyd all scored for Rovers. Swinton forward Liam Paisley and Featherstone winger Luke Briscoe were sent to the sin bin for fighting in the second half, with Rovers centre Josh Hardcastle also being yellow carded for fighting. Cameron King was sin-binned for a trip in the last minute of the game.

Widnes Vikings moved one step closer to wiping out their 12-point deduction as they beat Bradford Bulls 25-20 at the Halton Stadium.

Danny Craven, Keanan Brand, Jordan Johnstone and Ryan Ince crossed for the Vikings.

York City Knights won their fifth game in a row as they thrashedHalifax 38-16 at Bootham Crescent.

Judah Mazive, Sam Scott, Ben Cockayne (2) and Matty Marsh scored for the Knights. Connor Robinson kicked nine goals from as many attempts.

Toronto currently sit top of the Championship table with 12 points, closely followed by Toulouse, Sheffield and York who are all on 10 points.
