Castleford Tigers will be playing in a new stadium soon, after plans for a new £135 million retail development were approved by a meeting of Wakefield Council’s planning committee this afternoon.

The stadium, which will have a capacity of 10,000, will be part of development known as the Five Towns Park.

The planning meeting heard how more than 6,000 people had signed a petition backing the application by the Lateral Property Group.

As well as the stadium, the development will also feature a food store, petrol station, high quality shops and a country park.

It is to be built on land just off the M62, at Junction 32.
