Castleford-Wakefield result will stand

The RFL have confirmed that the result of Friday’s game between Castleford and Wakefield will stand, despite being abandoned after 73 minutes.

The game was brought to a premature end following safety concerns over a suspected fire in one of the floodlights.

An RFL statement said: “The RFL Board convened earlier today and decided that the game should be awarded to Wakefield.  Both clubs have supported that decision.”

According to the RFL Operational Rules, its independent Board of Directors will determine whether the result shall stand in an abandoned match.

Wakefield won the game 37-16.
