Canberra deny Hardaker interest

The Canberra Raiders say they have no interest in signing transfer listed Leeds Rhinos fullback Zak Hardaker.

The Raiders have young fullback Jack Wighton on their books and denied they are after Hardaker.

Canberra recruitment head Peter Mullholland has just returned to Australia from a two-week trip to the UK.

“We’re really happy with where it [our squad] is, I stayed with Gary Hetherington and I didn’t even ask,” Mulholland told The Canberra Times.

“You’ve only got to look at where Jack Wighton is and it’s probably not a position we’re looking at.

“He’s a good player, don’t get me wrong, and you talk to good players, but I don’t think it’s where we need to be.

Jack Wighton‘s done enough and we’ve got enough good kids coming through; I’m not worried about that one.

“I think his name’s associated with us because he’s a mate of Elliott’s.”

Mullholland confirmed that Frank-Paul Nuuausala is likely to leave the club for Super League.

St Helens have been linked with a move for the prop.

“I think they’re one of the clubs looking at him, but there’s no final decision he’s made yet,” Mulholland said.

“We wish him the best if it comes off, if not he’ll stay there. It’d extend his life in the game; he’s a good player and it is probably best going a year earlier than a year later.”
