Halifax have handed a new one-year deal to young back-rower Callum Casey.

Casey, 22, is the son of former Great Britain international Leo Casey, and made 19 first team appearances in 2012.

Director of Football Ian Croad said: “We are really pleased  to get Callum for another year. He’s struggled a bit to get in the team, sometimes not making the first team because of getting injured at wrong times, but we really believe that he is one for our future.”

A product of the Leeds Rhinos academy, Casey signed for Halifax at the end of last season, and spent a spell on loan at Oldham in 2011.

Casey said: “I’m even more determined to get into the first team on a regular basis next season and shall be working my hardest in the close season to make sure it happens.”

Leo Casey was an Ireland international prop, who played for Oldham, Featherstone and Swinton between 1985 and 1997.
