Cahalane saddened by Place’s Halifax exit

Halifax prop Mitch Cahalane has admitted that the recent departure of his fellow Australian Matt Place from the club has saddened him.

But he has given his former Mounties team-mate his backing, and thinks that Fax fans never really saw the best of Place during his time in Yorkshire.

“Matt’s a quiet person and he’s made the right decision for him,” said Cahalane, according to the Halifax Courier.

“It’s unfortunate; he struggled to adapt over here and we didn’t see his best football.

“We’ll move on from there now and I thought Ben Johnston went pretty well on Sunday, so we’ll be alright.

“Me and Adam (Tangata) love it here, we can’t say a bad word about the place, but I think it’s probably different for us.

“A half back has to lead the team around the field while we just have to do our job in the middle of the field.”
