South Sydney forward Sam Burgess has been banned for one game after the NRL judiciary deemed his high tackle on Andrew Fifita to be dangerous.

Burgess, 24, has been charged with grade one dangerous contact to the neck or head after tackling Fifita in Monday night’s defeat to Cronulla.

Top-of-the-table South Sydney will be without the services of Burgess for Saturday’s visit of Newcastle Knights.

Souths are already without Greg Inglis, Ben Te-o, Chris McQueen and John Sutton, who are all on State of Origin duty.
