Brook set for Lions role

The 29-year-old will be taking to the field at The Willows for Great Britain Community Lions as the nations finest amateur players take on Salford's Senior Academy Side.

Brook, also capped with Ireland Students during his days at Leeds Metropolitan University, recently got the call from captain Melvin Alker on Friday morning to join a strong 24 man squad as preparation begins for a one-off Test with France in Rochdale.

"I was honestly buzzing when I got the call, it's an honour to represent your country and in particularly the Great Britain Community Lions," Brook said.

"The set up is very impressive and the long term goal for myself and I'm sure the rest of the squad will be to play against France and ultimately to tour Australia in 2008."

The Lions, first hurdle however comes on Thursday evening at The Willows against Salford City Reds Senior Academy Squad. The City Reds will field  a blend of youth and experience both the Under 21s Championship begins.

Brook added: "The squad is packed full of high quality amateur players from across the country and working with them, as well as the coaching staff, will help my personal development within the game.

"There will be a large number of lads I've played against in the Premier Division and also Chris Dunnill who I play with at Oulton, so settling into things won't be a problem."

"I'll look to impress on Thursday and hopefully be awarded a place in the squad. The second challenge will be to face France, they are a strong side with fringe players from Catalan Dragons as well as other high ranking clubs in the French Elite competition."

Brook, who plays for Oulton Raiders in the National Conference, helped the club win the Premier Division Championship last season.

In April 2006 the Club picked up their first ever Minor Premiership before winning the Grand Final in May (against Thornhill Trojans) for the first time in their history.

He was also part of the side that conquered the continent with glory in the European Championship, in the South of France (against Le Barcares).
