Brisbane youngster Jack Reed, rated a Queensland Origin chance this season, has not closed the door on representing his birthplace – England, according to Rugby League Week magazine.

Reed, 22, has broken in to the Broncos first team this season, making his debut in the season opener against North Queensland Cowboys.

He was born in Castleford, and said of representing England: “Me and the family have talked about it.

“If it ever came down to it … we’re just going with footy at the moment. Representative footy isn’t in the big picture. Playing for the Broncos is.”

Asked if it would depend on who calls first, he said: “It’s kinda like that at the moment. Nothing’s really been said.”

A spokesman for the Rugby Football League says: “We don’t comment on individual players but the line is that Steve (McNamara) will not rule out of selection for England any player who qualifies under international rules.”
