Brisbane Broncos have confirmed that Tongan international Joe Ofahengaue has been charged by police over a motoring incident.

It is alleged that Ofahengaue, 24, fell asleep at the wheel of his car while under the influence of alcohol.

The club have notified the NRL Integrity Committee of the incident. The utility forward could now also face a fine from the Broncos over the incident.

Ofahengaue has made 93 appearances for the NRL side since his debut in 2015, scoring six times.

A Broncos statement, as reported by the Courier Mail, said: “The Brisbane Broncos are aware of an alleged motor vehicle-related offence involving forward Joe Ofahengaue.

“The NRL’s Integrity Unit was immediately informed of the incident and the Broncos are working with authorities on the matter.

“With respect to the legal process, no further comment will be made at this time.”
