Bridge: New arrivals have been standout performers

Widnes centre Chris Bridge has been pleased with the progress the new arrivals have made during pre-season.

Tom Armstrong has joined on a two-year deal whilst Tom Olbison has moved from Bradford and signed a contract to keep him at the Select Security Stadium for the next 12 months.

Tom Armstrong has been one of our better performers in the three games that he’s played,” Bridge told Love Rugby League.

Tom Olbison was really good as well he was one of the standout performers in the Saints game.”

The Vikings started really well last year winning six of their first seven matches and Bridge stressed how the need to hit the ground running again is essential.

“You need to start well because your confidence and momentum can go either way,” he said.

“If you get off to a bad start you start panicking a bit because it’s only 22 games before the split.

“It’s nice to have the points in the bag early on.”

Widnes kick off their season against Huddersfield before away trips to Wigan and Catalan and Bridge thinks it is impossible to earmark any games as easy encounters.

“Catalan’s always hard away and the same with Wigan as well,” he said.

“Like a few years back you’d always get a team where you put 30 points on them but it’s not the case anymore.”
