David Solomona was a key component of Bradford Bulls’ 34-24 win over his old club Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at Belle Vue, running in a try in the opening moments to set the visitors on their way.

The Wildcats were showed some improvement from Friday’s 56-12 defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Giants, but could not repeat the form that saw them score wins over Hull FC and St Helens earlier in the year.

Solomona set up the opening try for Bradford, sending Lesley Vainikolo over the line before adding a touch down himself, both scores converted by Paul Deacon to give the Bulls a 12-0 lead after just 15 minutes.

Ian Henderson crossed for a try soon after followed by a second for Vainikolo, Deacon converting both, and Wakefield could only reply though Matt Blaymire, Jamie Rooney kicking the two points.

The half-time score stood at 24-6 to Bradford, but quick tries after the break from Kevin Henderson and Peter Fox for the Wildcats, Rooney failing to convert, reduced the deficit to just 24-14.

In a tit-for-tat final few minutes, Michael Platt touched down for Bradford followed by a second try from Fox, before a Chris McKenna score settled the game in Bradford’s favour, despite a final try from Rooney.
