Bosc handed Catalans captaincy

Catalans boss Kevin Walters has named star half-back Thomas Bosc as his new team captain.

Bosc, 26, is the Dragons’ top points scorer in the top flight, having been at the club since their inception in 2006.

He takes over from Greg Bird, who left the club in the off-season to join NRL side Gold Coast Titans.

Walters said: “Thomas has been at the club since the beginning. He has improved dramatically since his debut in Super League. He is a key player for the Catalans and the national team. I feel him ready to take on this role and I guess it is natural that I have given him the captaincy.”

Prop forward Jerome Guisset remains as club captain, but as he isn’t on the field for the full 80 minutes, Catalans see it as crucial to have a team captain alongside him.

The announcement was made ahead of the Dragons’ pre-season friendly with Championship side Toulouse.
