Batley ready for big cup clash

Batley Bulldogs are hoping for a huge show of support from Rugby League fans as they prepare for one of the biggest games in their recent history at the weekend.

The Bulldogs host Engage Super League club Catalans Dragons at Mount Pleasant on Saturday (kick-off 5.30pm) in the quarter-finals of the Carnegie Challenge Cup.

The Co-operative Championship side reached the last eight of Rugby League’s 113-year-old knockout competition thanks to a 58-6 victory over Swinton Lions last week, and they warmed up for their big tie with a fine 35-16 win at Widnes Vikings on Sunday.

Catalans Dragons, currently bottom of Super League with just four points, reached the quarter-finals courtesy of a 35-34 victory over Welsh side Crusaders RL.

On Saturday, the Dragons suffered a 14-22 defeat at the hands of Salford City Reds.

The Bulldogs are hoping for a big crowd for the Dragons match and are offering free pre-match entertainment (gates open 2.00pm), discounted match tickets (including £4.99 entrance for all Super League and Championship season ticket holders) and discounted bar prices.
